Caught in a blizzard while driving home from work, Adam thankfully stumbles upon a very welcoming restaurant. Upon entering, however, it soon becomes apparent that those inside are as unusual as they are friendly.

In the midst of this white anguish there was a building; strangely untouched and strangely unworried about threats of war from the north. It was quite clear this was a restaurant; hinted at by the neon sign, intermittently flashing, reluctant to be woken from its daytime slumber. One glance showed the joy of those inside.

Deliberately whitened hospital walls, staring with the coolest indifference, stood in rude hush, eavesdropping on the huddling young couple who sat on the hospital bed. Outside the door, sounds of the ward: echoing footsteps, annoyingly indecipherable talk, various beeps and alarms and ringing telephones telegraphed the fact that the World was not going to stop because of mere sadness and loss. No minutes silence nor even a glance over the shoulder would be given as life sped on. It was the worst kind of Winter in that room; the snowless, invisible kind.

Adam could immediately see that the keys were all cut differently but because they were so joined they could never open any ordinary lock.

The girl simply looked, not stared, in to Adam’s eyes, her smile slipping and slipping and slipping until her eyes took over and spoke to Adam:

“To you I give the Key of Three Keys my friend, for it was not made for me but for thee!”
